North Bengaluru's mix of homes and new layouts
North Bengaluru combines established neighbourhoods such as Hebbal and Yelahanka with newer layouts and estates stretching towards Devanahalli. That means independent houses and villas, apartment communities, farmhouses on larger plots and businesses along the main roads. Newer layouts often have fewer tall trees and neighbouring buildings, so roof shade can be low.
Homes and villas
Independent houses can claim the PM Surya Ghar subsidy of up to ₹78,000. Larger plots sometimes allow a bigger system or a ground-mounted array beside the house, but the subsidy stops growing at 3 kW. We size to your consumption and roof rather than to the subsidy. See home rooftop solar.
Apartments and societies
Communities here can get ₹18,000 per kW for common facilities, up to 500 kW. See solar for apartments.
Farmhouses, institutions and businesses
Larger plots, schools, resorts and small industrial units have bigger roofs or spare land. We compare rooftop and ground-mount options, and check your connection and sanctioned load. Plants on non-residential connections are not covered by the central subsidy, but they benefit from bill savings and tax depreciation. See commercial and industrial solar.
What we check in this area
- Roof strength and waterproofing on older buildings.
- Shade from water tanks, parapets and new construction next door.
- Your sanctioned load, since larger systems may need a load increase first.
- Space and routes for cabling on large plots.
Electricity company
These areas fall under BESCOM, so the BESCOM solar rooftop portal and the KERC tariffs in our subsidy guide apply.
